Virtual scene depicting an anthropomorphic stele of Okuniev culture (2500 – 1800 BC). The modeling of this stele was done by photogrammetry. This image was realized during a study on the art of the first nomads of Central Asia, conducted by an international and multidisciplinary research group within the framework of the cooperation between the Museum of Anthropology of Monaco, the Institute of research on languages, literature and history of Khakassia and the Institute of History and Archeology of Mongolia. The material is composed of numerous engraved rocks, petroglyphs, hundreds of ornate stelae and vast funerary structures that present an artistic coherence over a vast geographical area. After spending several years studying the Mongolian zone, the team is now testing new techniques for recording archaeological information based on 3D modeling in southern Siberia, notably using photogrammetry.
