Plasma / cerebrospinal fluid samples are read to determine Beta peptides or Tau proteins. This image was made at the Jean-Pierre Aubert Research Center (JParc) where researchers are trying to understand Alzheimer’s disease and related diseases. They are interested in a mechanism of death of neurons called neurofibrillary degeneration. It is characterized by the accumulation and aggregation of Tau protein in the brain. These proteins play a role in intraneuronal transport, synaptic plasticity and protection against stress. Research on this protein could ultimately lead to better diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
